Our story…

As long as I can remember, my father, Dr. M.G. Prasad, was passionate about sound. As a professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, for over 37 years, his area of expertise was acoustics, sound and vibration. His office and home were filled with sound-making toys, but with each “toy” illustrating a specific part of how sound works, through concepts like frequency. He would regularly use this collection for school demonstrations, both teaching and exciting kids about sound.

This was the spark behind “What’s my Frequency?” In 2019, with his 2 young granddaughters (nieces, for me) in our minds, we developed a reading experience that would introduce infants and toddlers to wave concepts, through relatable characters. In late 2019 however, he tragically and suddenly passed away, and I, along with other close family, decided that self-publishing would offer his passion for sound, education, and children to the world.

I teamed up with Nadia Ronquillo, an accomplished illustrator with many projects under her belt. Her impressive portfolio had examples of “non- traditional” characters, based on human emotions and the human heart. I felt she would be an excellent collaborator to create our friendly “wave” character and visualize the wave’s journey.

We sincerely hope you enjoy reading the book, as much as we had creating it!
